Polynesians have been using boards with sails for hundreds of years. It wasn’t until the 1960s that windsurf board design really developed and it became the sport we know today. Unlike surfing, windsurfing uses the wind to propel forward while surfing uses the force of waves. This means you can practice the sport anywhere with a big body of water and wind, such as lakes, rivers, estuaries and, of course, the open ocean. 1. Kaanapali Wind - Maui Windy http://ow.ly/tGZe30h0dLA Please Like, Comment, and Subscribe! Wind is one of the most important parts of Maui. If you understand how Maui's wind patterns work then you won't be surprised when you hear that its t'll explain why it can be windy in Kaanapali or Kapalua, but completely calm in Lahaina which is only 3 miles away. It's sure interesting to see first-hand. To keep it simple, Maui has 2 types of wind: tradewinds and kona winds. Here's how they work. Any wind coming from the northeast then it's a trade wind. Tradewinds are the island's most common and you'll find them blowing for eighty percent of the year. It’s crazy that I’m covering my full wind range with 4 sizes. And crazy that there’s still tons of overlap in wind range even with an increase up to 5m between sizes. Just to prove to myself how much they overlap, last Friday I flew the 8.5 5.5 13.5 then 3.5 back-to-back in a 30 minute period of equal wind. Wind speed was around 16 mph. Ideal for the 5.5m. But awesome to experience the crazy range and versatile kitefoiling fun of all sizes Cloud C.5.

http://www.facebook.com/epicaptureproductions As far as prime wind surfing conditions go it wasn't the best day, but good enough to take the DJI Inspire One out to get a few cool shots. Usually the best conditions are on the North shore near Ko'okipa or Kanaha, but occasionally winds can be in surfers favor on the South side as well. Maui has some of the best wind surfing locations in the world, and every year people from countries around the globe travel to Hawaii to windsurf and kite surf when the conditions are prime. http://www.epicapture.com Subscribe for the latest Hawaii videos (there is A LOT more of this) and follow the social media site of your choice for up to the minute updates.
